Background

Before 1995  Archaeological Group, Fine Arts Department had the regional offices beneath the responsibilities of Monument division. The Regional Fine Arts office situated in 9 provinces namely Lopburi, Suphanburi, Sukhothai, Chiangmai, Prachinburi, Nakornratchasima, Khonkaen, Nakornsrithammarat and Songkhla. The Regional Fine Arts was performed the duty to survey, investigation, excavation, compile the artifacts and art objects for the analysis research, conservation, restoration the ancient monuments in the area and coordinated in operating projects with the centre office.

In 1995, Fine Arts Department was adjusted and portioned the government service, according to the royal decree, Fine Arts Department, Ministry of Education. In 1995, The 1st Regional Office of Archaeology and National Museum, Ratchaburi was set up and had the area in responsibility composes 6 provinces namely Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, Prachuabkirikhan, Samutsongkram, Samutsakorn, and Samutprakarn. At the beginning, The 1st Regional Office of Archaeology and National Museum, Ratchaburi rent the building at 7-9 Amphur Road, opposite with Ratchaburi Provincial Administrative Organization’s office.

Until 2001,  The 1st Regional Office of Archaeology and National Museum, Ratchaburi was approved the budget amount 3,800,000 baht to constructed the office building on the royal land, there are 0-1-04 square wah areas, close to Kraiphet Road, opposite with Ratchaburi Municipality water supply’s office. The construction of The 1st Regional Office of Archaeology and National Museum, Ratchaburi building was started on January and finished in November, 2002. In the same year, government service system was reformed and had the new part according to the ministerial regulations of Fine Arts Department, Ministry of Culture. Then The 1st Regional Office of Archaeology and National Museums, Ratchaburi was changed to The 1st  Regional Office of Fine Arts, Ratchaburi.
